If we are serious about reducing air pollution and saving our environment, a shift towards electric vehicles in the near future will be essential. Unfortunately, there are a number of obstacles that are preventing this from becoming a reality at present: the high cost of buying electric vehicles is one and – somewhat paradoxically – so is the lower noise emitted by them, as it requires pedestrians and cyclists to pay extra attention to their surroundings. Perhaps the biggest hurdle, however, is the need to frequently recharge the batteries in electric vehicles.
Zubax Robotics might just have the answer to that final challenge. Last year, the Estonian start-up was named the winner in the fourth edition of the PowerUp! competition, presenting a solution which enables a 10% increase in energy efficiency in electric motor controllers adapted for aerospace applications. In essence, the technology allows electric vehicles (especially aircraft) to travel further using considerably less energy from the battery. We applied to the competition because it offers the funding and support needed for innovative businesses to grow. Winning the competition was a powerful endorsement of our product, and confirmed our belief that we can make a real difference in the sector, said Pavek Kirienko, CEO of Zubax.
Winning last year’s competition saw Zubax receive a 30 000€ prize, as well as an opportunity to join the prestigious InnoEnergy Highway® accelerator. This scheme aims to assist start-ups in their development, helping them to adapt to the rigours and demands of the European market. Those who join the programme receive support across a wide range of areas, including legal and IP protection, pitch design and delivery, building and implementing an agile methodology, and many more.
We believe in helping grow new ideas, products and solutions that will make a real difference to the world of energy, as well as the new businesses and new people that will help deliver this innovation to market. At InnoEnergy, we support and invest in innovation at every stage of the journey – from the classroom to the customer. In conjunction with our network of partners, we build connections across Europe, bringing together inventors and industry, entrepreneurs and markets, graduates and employers, and researchers and businesses.
